Ø       PNASF Conferences, Organizations and Workshops

 

ICV-2002 - International Conference on Vegetables November 11-14, 2003 The Conference was successfully completed and the full proceedings was published in CD Rom format and distributed to all participated during March, 2003. The summary Proceedings is enclosed. The CD ROM is available on sale.

 

VEGINET - It was conceived and approved by the General Assembly of the ICV-2002. The VEGINET has been launched on 1st November, 2003. The Launching Paper is attached for information and membership contribution. The concession rate membership fee is applicable upto April 30, 2004 only.

 

BRC-2004 - The new book entitled "Food Security and Vegetables - A Global Perspective" was released by His Excelelncy Shri T.N. Chaturvedi, the Governor of Karnataka in the presence of Guests of Honour Shri. H.K. Patil, Honorable Minister for Agriculture, Shri T.B. Jayachandra, Honorable Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Shri K.B Koliwad, Honorable Minister for Rural Water Supply and Rural Development Engineering Division and Externally Aided Projects and the eminent professors and scientists and other participants during the Book Release Ceremony (BRC-2004) at Raj Bahvan, Bangalore on 5th March, 2004.

 

UPA-2005 – The FAO and PNASF organized the first international workshop on Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture for Asian countries on 29th June – 2nd July, 2005 at Bangalore. The official proceedings is available either with the AGPC, FAO, Rome or PNASF, Bangalore.

 

International Conferences participation  -The PNASF actively participated in the three international conferences ASHS 2005 (Las Vegas, USA), FAVH 2005 (Quebec, Canada), CUCURBIT 2005 (Townsville, Australia) by presenting lead and contributory papers.  

 

ICV-2008 - On the recommendation of the Organizing Committee of the ICV-2008 based in Fortaleza, Brazil supported by the international member institutions, it has been agreed to postpone the scheduled date of the Second International Conference on Vegetables from 14 – 18 April, 2008 to a later date before the end of the year. The details will be made available in due time in the Second Announcement to be published. Inconvenience caused to all interested in the conference is deeply regretted.

 

 

Ø       New Projects

 

PNASF/Dharmsheela/2005

 

PNASF received grant from Dr. Prem Nath, Bangalore towards the promotion of post-graduate education of women in agriculture and food in India in the form of instituting a scholarship in the name of his wife Late Acharya Dharmsheela Nath. The PNASF-Dharmsheela Nath Scholarship will be initiated beginning 2006. 

 

PNASF/SUN/WD-SHG/2005

 

PNASF received a grant from Dr. Sundari Velu, California, to develop a programme on promotion of marginal rural women through Self-Help Group. The programme entitled ‘Doctor Sundari – Rural Women’ will be initiated beginning 2006.

 

PNASF/MHPS/2005

 

PNASF granted a project for the education of biological science and nutrition to the students of the Model Higher Primary School, Geddalahalli Bangalore.       

 

 

Ø       Awards

 

The PNASF awarded plaque to the recognized senior agricultural scientist Padmashree Dr. M. Mahadevappa during the International Workshop on Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture held on June 29 – July, 02, 2005 in Bangalore.

 

 The young agricultural scientist PNASF Gold Medal to Dr. S.K. Malhotra of National Research Centre on Seed Spices, Ajmer was awarded for his outstanding contribution on seed spices during the SYMSAC-II Current Trends in Onion, Garlic, Chillies and Seed Spices held on November 25, 2005 in Pune.

 

 

Ø       Publications

 

A book entitled "Food Security and Vegetables - A Global Perspective" with 29 papers by the international authors of repute was published and released in March, 2004. The book is available on sale with the PNASF.

 

PNASF News – While the copies of the Vol No I- Issue I, II and III are available, Vol I – Issue IV will be published in January 2006.

 

Proceedings on International Workshop on Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture for Asian Countries (29th June to 2nd July, 2005, Bangalore) was published  in September 01, 2005. This publication is for official circulation only.

 

New Arrival 2006 – The book under printing entitled ‘Vegetables – Production and Utilization’  for university students and farmers is scheduled to be published during early 2006.
